Richard H. Seaton Sr.
With over 43 years of experience in local, state and federal courts, Dick Seaton is the senior-most partner of Seaton, Seaton and Gillespie L.L.P. His areas of concentration include employment and school law, probate and estate planning, and commercial and civil litigation. He has the highest rating (AV) from Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Seaton has considerable appellate experience before the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Kansas Supreme Court and Kansas Court of Appeals. Appearing twice in the U.S. Supreme Court, he most recently successfully represented the plaintiff in Umbehr v. County Commissioners, a free speech case. As a result, he was named a lawyer of the year by Lawyers Weekly U.S.A.
Dick was for many years the general counsel for Kansas State University, where he handled cases relating to civil rights, employment, constitutional and administrative law. He also serves on the Board of Editors of the Kansas Bar Journal, and is a former chairman.
